Growing up riding, and racing bikes since I was just five years old, taught me a lot about the sport—the energy, the challenges, and the stories that make it so special. That background helps me capture the sport’s most exciting moments while keeping it authentic. Filmmaking started as a way to share my excitement for telling unique stories to mountain biking, and I feel lucky to have turned it into a career where I get to work with amazing brands, athletes, and audiences.
A Career Built on Creativity
Before founding Ryan Cleek Productions, I had the privilege of serving as the lead creative content producer for some of the world’s largest cycling and outdoor lifestyle brands. These experiences allowed me to refine my skills in creating impactful visuals and campaigns while working with global teams to share the stories and innovations behind the sport. This background continues to influence the work I do today, ensuring that every project meets the highest standards of quality and creativity. When it comes to commercial video production, having been on the “inside” of some of the outdoor industry’s largest and most influential brands, I’ve seen first-hand what it takes to bring a product from idea to execution; and, it’s that experience I keep in the back of my mind when I’m working with clients on how to best bring their new product to life.

Feature-Length Mountain Bike Documentaries
When I was 25 years old, I wrote, produced, directed, and edited my first feature-length action sports documentary film, “Downhill Speed,” a film I shot with the help of a few friends, and I edited on my nights, weekends, and vacation days while working full-time as a staff writer and photographer at Mountain Bike Action magazine, which at the time was the largest monthly mountain bike magazine in the world. Back then, “Downhill Speed” project was distributed worldwide by DVD and told the story of three professional downhill mountain bikers: Eric Carter, Johnny Waddell, and Orlando Martinez, all in different stages of their racing careers and wouldn’t be in the same room together if it weren’t for professional downhill mountain bike racing. Twenty years later, the success of that DIY feature-length film engrained the writing, producing, directing, and editing techniques I still draw from today in every piece project I create.
More recently, one of the highlights of my career was directing, producing, and editing the feature-length documentary, Cam Zink: Reach for the Sky, which tells the story of one of freeride mountain biking’s most iconic athletes, Cam Zink. This film gave me the chance to combine my love of storytelling with breathtaking mountain biking footage, offering an in-depth look at the life and challenges of one of mountain biking’s most beloved and groundbreaking riders. Projects like this fuel my drive for sharing the human side of mountain biking—the grit, determination, and triumphs. To this day, the bigger and more complex the storytelling challenge seems to be, the more I seek to create the project.
